The UG Degree in Visual Effects at ICAT is a full-time program that provides high level of technical mastery in all key techniques, from initial lighting intentions to final calibration. Beyond pure mastery of software, the program develops creativity, artistic acuity, and visual culture in students.

They are also given an all-round knowledge on 3D Art, 3D Animation, Concept Art, and Game Design, which allows them to develop short films and game cinematics. The detailed study of VFX techniques and the additional knowledge on related streams enable the students to take up job roles as a Digital Compositor, Set & Environment Artist, 3D Artist, Cinematographer, Matchmoving Artist and more.

The Learning Curve
From understanding visual compositions to participating in research and technological development projects, the students get a comprehensive understanding of making visual effects with a touch of their own unique style. This comprehensive learning happens in a linear fashion through the three years of study.
Year I - Get Introduced from Design Basics to Digital Design
The blistering 3-year course starts with an overview of the entire VFX pipeline. It provides an underpinning knowledge of design, the principles and various elements of design, visual language, and related applications and technologies. The students are introduced to history of art; various styles, methods, and mediums of illustration; range of visual research methods and practices; and strategies and approaches used by art and design practitioners. They get to explore their drawing skills with an implication of design basics. Further, the students seek the essential skills necessary to create digital design layouts and for image manipulation.
Year II – Start Brining Your Imaginations on Screen
This critical year introduces students to professional practices of the industry, keeping in mind the range of associated career aspirations. The students are encouraged to use different materials to create the look and feel of a particular design brief to execution. They are introduced to layout design / asset creation from design brief and provided the skills necessary to create design elements in their specialized area of study. They are offered an in-depth study in a chosen area of communication, and are enabled to master the understanding of client–target–product relationship and how it reflects upon the creative process. Further, the students are engaged in an extended, self-managed project to demonstrate their ability to integrate the various elements of the course..
Year III – Make the World See Thorough Your Mind’s Eye
Preparing to be the original VFX Artist in the industry, students are encouraged and guided to work on a full-fledged VFX project, right from pre-production involving storyboarding and concept art to post production works. The students get to extend their knowledge of media, methods, and process development through a critical approach. They prepare a portfolio of their work by authoring an individual DVD, which is intended to be reviewed by their peers and potentially sent to production houses for their comments. Further, the students are provided an opportunity to work collaboratively in a Design Development team to address a real world problem for an external client.
