Course Overview
Animate Your Mind’s Eye on Screen
The UG Degree in Animation at ICAT is a full-time program that provides a deep understanding of anatomy, expressions, emotions, film techniques, and animation methodologies to create finest animation works.
The program gives the students every practice necessary to build specialist skills on animation by deploying the latest in technology rather than completely relying on technology. The students are guided to streamline their ideas and improve their visual communication and storytelling skills. They are given intense hands-on practice on the nuances of creating animation works for different mediums, including films, television, advertisements, games, education, and more. They are also given an insight of the latest AR, VR, and MR technologies.

With 14 kids’ channels and big broadcasting partners in India, there is a drastic need for localized original animation content. Also, as a potential market for animated movies and as a hub of low cost and skilled manpower, India has become the prime hub for outsourcing animation work. This has made many Indian studios, like Tata Elxsi, Reliance Media Works, Prime Focus, and Pixion to partner or enter in co production with American and European studios to produce animation content.
In addition, concepts like Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality has opened the markets for Animation industry to produce quality content for Edutainment. All these imply that the Animation world in India is expanding big time and is assured to offer highly promising job opportunities to skilled ones.

The Learning Curve
Enabling students to give shape to their wildest imaginations is the best challenge we take up in this course through varied learning methodologies. From regular classroom sessions and group learning to studio practices, research oriented learning, sessions from professionals, outdoor learning, internships, and real-time project works, students are taken through every effective way of learning in the three years of study.
Year I - Amass the Conceptualization & Communication Skills
Digital designing and visual communication come as the basics to start with, through which the students get to design static objects, characters, and interactive frameworks with sheer perspective of emotions, actions, texts, influential images, and even comical art. The students explore various art materials and techniques used through different periods and movements of art. They get a clear understanding of 3d spacing, textures, colours, perspective, and more that helps in conceptualizing by making miniatures. The students also get the opportunity to extend their conceptual, practical, and technical skills by experimenting different art forms and technical areas of delivering the required output.
Year II – Practice to Depict Ideas on Screen
Extending the knowledge received, this year encourages students to execute their design skills, communication style, and knowledge on techniques with respect to par real time design requirements. The students get an advanced outlook of designing for varied mediums with best understanding of client – target – product relationship. They get their hands on layout designing, asset creation, modelling, texturing, lighting, animating, rigging, and so on that provides enough practice in their specialized area of study. The students are expected to produce their independent animation works through critical self analysis and by exhibiting in-depth research outputs.
Year III – Bring to Life Your Animation Professional
Getting ready to enter the challenging world, the students work collaboratively in a Design Development team applying and further developing their problem-solving, design, development, and evaluation skills in creating content that address a real world problem. Students develop their excellence in performing every key step, right from ideation, conceptualization, and storyboarding to production of individual programs of work using a range of media and techniques. The students are also guided through portfolio creation, maintenance, and presentation techniques.
